Rick Questions Things is my space for writing, meditation, and exploring questions. I’m Rick Harper, and here’s how information is handled when you spend time here.
I don’t sell or rent visitor information, and I don’t use Google Analytics. Questions about privacy? Email rick@rickquestionsthings.com.
Messages and the newsletter
I use the information you send me to reply or arrange a meditation session. Please leave sensitive personal details out of an initial inquiry. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile for spam protection.
Kit handles newsletter signups and measures email opens and clicks. You can unsubscribe anytime; that stops emails but doesn’t automatically erase subscriber history. The signup form uses Google reCAPTCHA.
Earlier blog subscriptions are handled separately through Jetpack and WordPress.com. Those subscriptions haven’t been moved to Kit. You can manage or unsubscribe from them through their emails.
Chat and site services
Crisp handles chat messages and uses cookies to maintain conversations. It also gives me visitor notifications and approximate location information. Conversations can remain until deleted.
WordPress and Bluehost run the site. Hosting, security logs and backups may contain technical or website data. YouTube, social networks and Etsy have their own privacy practices. Online meditation sessions use Google Meet.
Jetpack Stats helps me see which pages people visit and how they find the site. Automattic processes technical information, including IP addresses and visited pages; the reports I see don’t identify individual visitors. Jetpack also supports site security and image delivery.
Earlier comments remain publicly visible with the name, date and message originally submitted. The redesigned site doesn’t accept new post comments or load Gravatar profile images.
The Question Machine
I designed the AI-assisted inquiry to offer follow-up questions that help you explore what you’ve written. I set its direction and boundaries; OpenAI generates the individual responses. It may also suggest a pause or offer a safety response when needed.
Favorites and saved reflections stay in your browser. If you choose AI-assisted inquiry, OpenAI receives the original question and up to three recent exchanges, limited to 1,200 characters per question and 2,000 per response. A short response may be shared in full. Other saved reflections and favorites aren’t included. You can keep the inquiry local instead.
The reviewed server code doesn’t store reflection text, but keeps hashed-IP usage counters to limit abuse. It requests no saved AI response. OpenAI may still retain abuse-monitoring records, generally up to 30 days, with exceptions in its data policy. Avoid sharing sensitive information.
Your choices
I review closed inquiries and chats after 12 months and delete information I no longer need. Newsletter, payment, security and backup records are handled separately.
You can skip these optional features, unsubscribe, or clear browser-stored data. Clearing data may remove saved reflections. For questions or requests about information you’ve provided, email me. I may need to confirm that it belongs to you.
